On June 3, 2010, Mount Royal University and the Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre struck their own deal which enables Mount Royal to continue to provide more interactive learning opportunities for professionals who want to upgrade their skills or are new to the oil and gas industry.
Mount Royal President Dave Marshall and Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre Executive Director and Board Chair Don Hunter signed an MOU, which made the new partnership official during a brief ceremony among industry partners in the Lincoln Park Room.
A separate celebration was also held at the Centre on June 10 in Devon, AB
A plaque commemorating this new partnership was unveiled for representatives of Mount Royal, the Board of Directors of the Centre and more than 40 professionals from Nexen Inc. who traveled from Calgary to tour the Centre and its educational displays.

“Mount Royal University is excited to develop this partnership with Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre which brings together their history and knowledge of the oil and gas industries with our experience of delivering educational programs to meet the needs of this sector,” says Mount Royal Provost and Vice President, Academic, Robin Fisher.
“Our Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension prides itself in delivering high quality, community responsive programs and this one with Leduc # 1 extends that service in Alberta.”
The new education partnership will enable Mount Royal’s Corporate Training program to develop and improve a variety of customized programs available to the oil and gas sector, ranging from project management, to leadership and technical training.
It will also provide students with opportunities for first-hand experience with different aspects of the petroleum industry by visiting the Discovery Centre.
"Our partnership with Mount Royal University will ensure the Discovery Centre's ability to deliver energy related courses to the oil and gas companies, their personnel and the general public,” says Hunter Wight, Vice President, University Advancement.
