Future of Energy Project

The Future of Energy Project will be kicked off to raise funding for Centre Operations going forward.

Over the years, through private sector and government collaboration, we have raised funds to accomplish the physical expansion of the Centre from 11,000 sq. ft. to 26,660 sq. ft. Included in the new structure is the Imperial Oil Theatre, the state of the art Ralph Klein Learning Lab, room for more than 220 new exhibits including the Nexen Devonian Express exhibit, the largest of its kind anywhere in Canada.

The goal of $4 million is designed to sustain operations of the Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre into the future. In plain English, we’ve already established a sustainability/endowment fund with the Edmonton Community Foundation. The purpose of the fund, simply put, is to keep the lights on and bills paid. The Edmonton Community Foundation is part of a comprehensive network of Canadian community foundations and will help create and maintain a strong vibrant Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre for generations to come.

The new direction of the Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre is evolving in many ways. Our international attendance at the Centre is increasing year over year both physically and online. Our recent website upgrade has brought in visitors from over 30 countries in the first month of operations. But we have more planned!

The collaboration of private corporations, various levels of government, and the outstanding help of our contributors, members, and volunteers have allowed us to maintain the Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre as one of the truly great Energy Learning Centres in the World. Our dedication to the mission of educating the public, exploring the future of energy, and creating a World Class environment where people from all over the World can come and visit our Centre and learn what we have done in Canada in the past, and more importantly, what we are doing now and our strategies for clean renewable energy going into the future.

Career oilfield workers are also coming in increasing numbers to the Centre and so are corporations. Major safety companies use the Centre facilities for Energy Industry related safety training. The Leduc #1 Energy Discovery Centre has recently signed an MOU with Mount Royal University. This extends our educational mandate in the region and offers energy related training in addition to traditional adult and corporate education. For more information, click here.

All of these exciting developments are part of a growing legacy that we are building for the future of Albertans, Canadians, and the World.
